A Glimpse of a Coming Day

A Glimpse of a Coming Day

Many times during this last year I’ve joked about a new measuring stick for the quality of a new day.

Is the stock market average positive?

Is the sun out?

As the pandemic has lingered on, I have consistently looked outside my office window to check the weather and read the ticker at the bottom of my news feed.

Seems so arbitrary, right?

After all, I have absolutely no control over either of those. In fact, if I am being honest, I would tell you that I have absolutely no idea how either the weather or the stock market even operate! I just like to watch!

You need to know, that wherever you live is never as nice as North Carolina is in the spring.

It is simply the best. Like San Diego, where the temperature is 74 every day, but with azaleas and magnolia trees!

Like everywhere else…only better!

Over the last year I needed something to suggest that everything was going to be okay.

A sunshiny day in December was a promise that there would be another. And then, come spring, there would be 70 in a row!

It was a glimpse of a coming day.

Our lives are a lot like that. A foretaste.

We certainly have bad days. Bad seasons.

But they do not last forever.

It is the ultimate promise of Heaven. Death and sin will be forever conquered, and every day will be the best day. No more bad days.

Until then, we get a glimpse. A great sunrise. A child’s laughter. The best meal. Holding hands with someone we love. That feeling right there…it’s Heaven. And God gives us a glimpse on this side of eternity.

I love Malachi 4:2, it says “For you who fear my name, the sun of righteousness shall rise with healing in its wings. You shall go out leaping like calves from the stall.”

I guess that is why I loved a sunny day in such a dark season. It is a glimpse of that promise. This will end. All of this will end. And the Son will rise with healing in His wings.

And everything…all things…will be made right. It will be a new day indeed.
