Big News at Bite Size Theology

Hello, everyone! We hope that you all enjoyed listening to our Extended Edition episode on Church Leaders as much as we did recording it. If you haven’t been able to listen just yet or you need to catch back up on a previous episode you may have missed, check out our library here!

Two big announcements: first, we are officially changing our logo on all platforms! I understand that many of the pear-lovers in the audience may not like this but we at Bite Size Theology could not continue on supporting something we simply don’t believe in: pears. We pray that you will hang with us through this trying time.

Second, as I wrote to you all last time, fans of Aaron’s Sports Corner have some new content to look forward to: John and I (Sage) will be starting a new podcast in the next week or so called “Tears of the Titans: A Tennessee Titans Fancast.” As the title suggests, John, a recent convert to Tennessee Titans fandom, and Sage, a long-suffering fan of the NFL team in Nashville, will be doing a weekly podcast around 30-45 minutes in length where we break down the previous game and, more importantly, try to have fun following their season this year. If you are interested, keep an eye out in the Everyday Exiles Podcasting Network stream wherever you get your podcasts!

Week 1 (8/26-8/30):

Monday 8/26: Fruits of the Spirit (Pt. 9) – Self-Control

We’ve now come to the last, and probably the least fun-sounding of the fruits of the Spirit: self-control. When you think of self-control, you might think of some kind of rigorous discipline. You might think of having to give up fun things in order to do something hard.

While there’s at least some element of truth in that, we also have to keep in mind self-control is last on a list of qualities that also includes love and joy first. Which means, if the Spirit is supposed to grow people into all of these qualities, then self-control shouldn’t be something dull, but something motivated by all the other qualities that came before, love and joy included…  

Tuesday 8/27: Testimonies

In Mark chapter 5, there’s a man who was possessed by a demon, who lived among the tombs, would cut himself with stones, and would break every shackle and chain he was subdued with. One day, Jesus showed up, saw the man, and cast the demon out of him. Needless to say everyone who saw Jesus do this ran to tell the other people in the city and country to see what had happened, and when they showed up, they saw the demon-possessed man, clothed and in his right mind, and were so terrified that they begged Jesus to leave. And Mark writes,

“As [Jesus] was getting into the boat, the man who had been possessed with demons begged him that he might be with him. And he did not permit him but said to him, ‘Go home to your friends and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.’ And he went away and began to proclaim in the Decapolis how much Jesus had done for him, and everyone marveled…”

Wednesday 8/28: The Helper

In Genesis 2:18-23, the writer provides us the Biblical account of the creation of the first woman:

“Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.” Now out of the ground the Lord God had formed every beast of the field and every bird of the heavens and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. And whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name. The man gave names to all livestock and to the birds of the heavens and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper fit for him. So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man. Then the man said, “This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man…””

Thursday 8/29: Sons of God and Daughters of Men

here are few biblical passages that are more peculiar and more fascinating to study than the opening verses of Genesis chapter 6. Before we go any further, let’s take a look.

“When man began to multiply on the face of the land and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of man were attractive. And they took as their wives any they chose. Then the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years.” The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man and they bore children to them. These were the mighty men who were of old, the men of renown…”
