Road Trip

I just drove from North Carolina to Florida and back in a weekend. I just got home. I’m pooped.

We drove down there for a conference. The dress for the conference was “resort casual” which as it turns out means Tommy Bahama shirts, designer shorts, dress socks and loafers.

I don’t own these things, so I wore a button down and jeans. Fortunately, part of resort casual means you don’t care what other people are wearing.

Several friends of mine went to the conference. Most everyone flew there. I drove. Two guys came with me.

The conference was one of those getting shot at by a fire hose type of things. Lots and lots of good stuff getting thrown at you and then sitting around the pool and saying isn’t this great?

It was.

But to be honest the best part was the twenty hours in the car. It was the talking with my buddies about our lives and our struggles. It was the impromptu praise and worship to get us through traffic. It was the laughter after my fart stunk up the car. It was the sharing with each other our favorite songs and why they mean so much to us.

That was the best part.

My friend defines relationship as contact + time.

That’s what it is. Contact + Time = Relationship

It was the best part of the trip. Being with my friends and having uninterrupted time. I’m thankful for that. That’s what the conference gave me – the excuse that I should be taking more often than I do – to be with people and have nothing else to do and nowhere else to go.
