How to Move Mountains

How to Move Mountains

Lao Tzu – the ancient mystic Chinese philosopher (how’s that for a title) – is quoted having said: “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.”

Jesus – the Son of God, King of kings, Lord of Lords, and savior of the world (how’s that for a title) – is quoted saying: “If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move.” Matthew 17:20

Dickie Graham – teacher, wrestling coach, dad, husband, and my friend (how’s that) – told me once: “The way you move a mountain is one step at a time. That mountain gets smaller every step you take. You keep stepping and eventually that mountain that was ahead of you will be behind you. That’s the faith of a mustard seed. Mustard seed faith is the faith of a single step.”

I’ve climbed lots of mountains, and what these guys say is true. The only way to climb a mountain is one step at a time. Sometimes, when the mountain is really big, it doesn’t seem like you are getting anywhere. But the crazy thing is, when you look back, I’m always astonished at how far I’ve gone.

Maybe today, instead of looking at that big huge thing that is ahead of you, take a moment to look back at how far you’ve come.

Then, take another step. Then, another. It’s the only way to do it. Mustard seed faith…one step at a time.
