Last October, you all may have noticed a new edition to the Everyday Exiles Podcast Network: Bite Size Theology. It was recently brought to my attention that no one really knows who we are behind the scenes. Many of you may not even know what Bite Size Theology even is. As one of the founders of BST, I take it as my solemn duty to attempt to correct our mistake.

Each day Monday through Friday, we post a new episode. Each one is a 3-6 minute exploration of some theological concept, a biblical story, or a reflection on the Christian life looked at in a different way than you may have heard before. If you love theology, the Bible, and trying to figure out how to love and serve God better in your own life, then join us as we work through it for ourselves and walk with anyone else who will listen.

Bite Size Theology was an idea originally had by one of my best friends, John McCord. My other BFF Aaron Lively and I loved the idea. We’ve been writing scripts for the episodes ever since.

I first met them at East Tennessee State University, often referred to as “The Harvard of the South.” Aaron and John went to high school together in Kingsport, TN, a town about twenty minutes away from the campus. We hit it off after we met through our student ministry. Not long after, we started making videos for their YouTube channel, the name of which I will not be providing here.

After graduating, we have moved all over the country and we don’t get to see each other much these days. But BST has given us a chance to do two things we love: talk about God and hang out together, albeit not quite how we used to. The best part is that people seem to like it. I speak for all of us when I tell you that we greatly appreciate all the love you sent our way without even knowing it.

Over the next few months, we are going to be expanding a bit. Every two weeks, we will be putting out what we are tentatively calling Bite Size Theology: Extended Edition. In addition to the regular Monday through Friday entries, we will be doing more long-form conversations, about 30-45 minutes apiece. If you want to hear more about us personally or here deeper conversations about God and the world than we can get into in five minutes, then this will be the podcast for you.

I’ll start by letting you all know about me.

My name is Sage Blalock. I was born and raised in Sevierville, TN, by my amazing parents. I “prayed the prayer” when I was ten and after eight years of wandering in darkness and hypocrisy, Jesus came and got me as I was driving home from church. Since then, Jesus has been continually working on me, exposing the sin within me and reminding me every day that he loves me no matter what.

The best proof of his love in my life is my beautiful, wonderful wife and soulmate Jamie. She is everything I could ever want. She’s kind, she works harder than anyone I’ve ever met, and she makes me a better person than I ever could have been without her steadfast love and care. We’ve been married almost three years but we’ve been dating since we were 15 years old. It’s been the best ten years of my life by far.

I love movies, good books, and sports (football and basketball the most). I am incredibly passionate about writing, both fiction and (maybe one day) for the screen. I am a Tennessee Volunteers fan which, as you can probably imagine, is often filled with disappointment and minor existential crises. But next year is their year…right?

Currently, I am finishing up my last semester-ish of seminary at Wake Forest Divinity School. Once it’s over, Jamie and I are going to be pursuing her career and my first professional ministry position. All the while I’ll be writing for and working on the Bite Size Theology podcast.

Now let me introduce my teammates in their own words:

Hello everyone, my name is Aaron, and boy do I need all the help I can get! Some highlights about me: I grew up in Tennessee, moved to Colorado in 2017 and still live there, and am currently a proud owner of six pairs of shoes. A couple of my favorite pastimes include exploring Colorado and drinking craft beer. I’m one of those insane people that enjoys running for fun, and I’m also a moderate-to-huge dork who likes all things video games and movies. Some of my other hobbies include photography, videography, writing, and by far the most prominent of all, hanging out with my cat.

Oh yeah, and I write for the Bite Size Theology podcast! Looking forward to sharing more about my story with you on the podcast soon, and thanks for any support you may have given us so far (even if it’s just reading this blog post)!

Hey everyone,

I am John McCord, the voice you hear on the daily episodes stumbling through medium sized words, trying to read and talk at the same time can prove difficult for me.

My amazing wife and I bounce around from Virginia and Tennessee with a massive Labrador Retriever named Bronson.

I am a giant Bible nerd because the word of God fundamentally changed my life and changed who I was and am.

The last interesting thing about me is I am a Tennessee Titan Fan, a Georgia tech football fan, and an Atlanta Hawks fan, which means I have not celebrated a meaningful sports victory in what seems like ever.

I hope you enjoy the podcast and join us trying to stumble forward as we try to follow Jesus better.
