All Glory Be to Christ

All Glory Be to Christ

Another year has come and gone – each year has enough troubles of its own, and 2017 was no exception. At the end of a year, especially a year of extensive growth and trial, I can’t think of a better way to say goodbye to 2017 than to celebrate the birth of Christ. Christ’s birth comes at the perfect time. His birth is a reminder of God’s fulfilled promises (Isaiah 7:14, Micah 5:2). He is faithful. He was faithful in fulfilling his promises when the scripture was written, and he is faithful today in fulfilling his promises in our own lives. For me, Christmas is a time to remember all the prayers God answered in 2017 and all the gifts, blessings, and goodness he lavished upon me through growth and trial.
I am thankful. He is faithful. Christ is here.
At the end of the year, we get to reflect on the faithfulness of the Lord, not only his gracious gift of his son, but also his gracious gift of another year. We are reminded of his promises, not only the ones he has fulfilled, but also the ones he has yet to fulfill. Christ is coming. He came as a baby thousands of years ago, and he is coming again.
I am thankful. He is faithful. Christ is coming.
My favorite song to listen to during this time of celebration, reflection, and transition to another year is King Kaleidoscope’s song “All Glory Be To Christ.”  The song is to the tune of Auld Lang Syne. The first two verses read:
Should nothing of our efforts stand
No legacy survive
Unless the Lord does raise the house
In vain its builders strive
To you who boast tomorrow’s gain
Tell me, What is your life?
A mist that vanishes at dawn
All glory be to Christ!
At the end of the year, may you not forget the faithfulness of Christ in your own life, never ceasing to thank him and praise him for his steadfastness and lavish grace he has bestowed on you –  May you be thankful for His birth, not forgetting the great sacrifice he made by sending his son, demonstrating to us the greatness of his love towards us – May you look forward, eagerly anticipating Christ’s return with every ounce of your being, longing for him to come back – and, Finally, may your last words of 2017 ring, just as the song reads, “All glory be to Christ!” The good, the hard, the doubt, the trust, the loss, the gain, the sickness, the health – all of it. All glory be to Christ.
